Hikes With The Most Colorful Fall Foliage

Leaf seasons come and go- though, you have never experienced a fall quite like the memorable falls here in the Great Smoky Mountains. We thought you might enjoy a few of the most prized locations to observe the changing of the leaves during your stay at one of our cabin rentals in Gatlinburg. Our Gatlinburg cabins have impressive views of the fall foliage, but sometimes it is best to get out there and experience autumn in more personal ways. This fall, enjoy taking a family hike and slow down with the “painting of the trees”.

Hike Toward Vibrant Fall Foliage

Rich Mountain Loop

Rich Mountain Loop in Cades Cove is a colorful way to explore one of the most beloved valleys in the nation. This is a short loop with a hike that offers numeral views of Cades Cove and it just so happens to pass through some very lovely sections of forest. There is a campground near the base which is ideal for parking.

Appalachian Trail

Snag a parking spot in the parking area at Newfound Gap and start your trek towards your trailhead. From the starting point of your trailhead, you will want to follow the signs that lead to Indian Gap, it is near Clingmans Dome. So. Much. Color. Here.

Inspiration Point – Alum Cave Trail

You will want to leave your car at the Alum Cave Trail parking area. The Alum Cave Trail is about 10.5 miles south of Gatlinburg, it falls along Newfound Gap Road. This hike will take you through several old-growth forests. The trail is roughly 3.6 miles round trip and offers amazing fall views!

Look Rock Tower

Follow along US-321 to the Foothills Parkway from Townsend. The Foothills Parkway is an iconic, scenic route that will offer you incredible views the entire way to Look Rock Tower. Park at the Look Rock Tower parking area and continue on foot to the trailhead. It’s about a 1-mile round trip and is a moderate hike. Take your camera!
